This presentation will review the various state and federal laws prohibiting discriminatory employment practices, including NRS 613.330, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Equal Pay Act of 1963, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978, the Nevada Pregnant Workers’ Fairness Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Civil Rights Act of 1991, and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008. This presentation also explores common discriminatory actions, the rights and remedies of employees, and the obligations of employers. Topics will also include sexual harassment, reasonable accommodations, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (“EEOC”) and the Nevada Equal Rights Commission (NERC”). This presentation will also cover the procedure and timeline of an employment discrimination case, including establishing a prima facie case, administrative complaints, the conciliation process, and state and federal litigation.
